Yet Another Project

At this rate, my Dear Jane quilt will take years to finish...

I spent a good part of the day yesterday with three of my good quilting friends putting together a raffle quilt for a local charity. It was one of those "how quickly can you get one finished?" deals.

In the last year or so, our group has made a good number of charity quilts and we've pretty much settled on a disappearing nine-patch as a quick pattern that works well in a hurry, especially with scrappy fabrics. It looks complicated to the untrained eye, but goes together very quickly. See a few tutorials here and here.

This is a sneak peek of what was on the design wall. The fabrics have all been donated to our guild (a lot of them from one very generous member), so the only thing required of the rest of us is our time and effort. After several hours of sewing, we had a good part of the top sewn together, so after just a few more hours we should have the borders on it and ready for quilting and binding.

Then I can hopefully get back to a Dear Jane block or two...

Anya, thank you for sharing this latest project with your blog readers! I love how active your quild memebers and friends are... keep up the good work! Your DJs will be patiently waiting for your return, they are too pretty to be forgotten! Have a great day!

I think it is great that you took your time to work on this quilt. Someone is really going to be thrilled.

I've seen that stash at the Lake House and I'm telling you....you gals will be sewing for a very long time :)

I sometimes think Dear Jane is meant to take years to complete!! I do not know anyone who only made Jane until they were finished with it and worked on nothing else! My first took me 3 years to complete the top and the second is a year already and no where near completed.

I think it does the soul good to break away from long projects to do other things. You really seem to have an active guild/friends and seem to do a lot of charity work. That's so nice.

My dear Anya, with all the projects that you do, it's ok not to have the Dear Jane as the main project I think. I have a friend who said it took her 7 years because she was doing other stuff.
I received that lovely little quilt you sent me and that took time and effort for which my sweetie has put it on the table at the cottage in the kitchen. He tells all that admire it that it was hand made by one of my blogging friends. He actually shows the hand quilting to them. So your life if full. Dear Jane's are supposed to take more than 2 weeks, which is probably why I don't even look at the book. When Karen (see above) said that she had a square of the DJ that had 57 pieces. I told her that some of my quilts don't have that many pieces...grinning here....
