Steamy Love Affair

Got your attention, didn't I? I'm passionately in love with this...

I finally broke down and bought myself a new iron...the first new one in more than 20 years. My other two GE irons had gotten to the point where they just didn't cut it anymore. Both had issues with the heat settings and were not getting hot enough for me anymore. Sometimes the steam worked and sometimes it didn't. I would get frustrated with one and then get out the other one and use it for a few weeks...then get frustrated with it...switch back to the first one...you get the picture.

My friend Madalene had recommended the Black and Decker Digital Advantage iron to me about a year ago. She said that it gets very hot and very steamy. Who could ask for more? So with an Amazon gift card in hand, I finally ordered it. And so far, so good. We'll see what happens down the line -- I've heard so many horror stories about irons only lasting a couple of years nowadays. That's not what I'm used to and not what my mother is used to (click here to see my blog post about her iron).

One reason I had put off getting a new iron is because I did not want one with an auto-off feature. I've used those at retreats and classes and find them annoying. Finding one without the auto-off is nearly impossible (and if you can find one, they're outrageously expensive). I completely understand the need for that safety feature, but I don't need it because my iron is plugged into a power strip along with three other appliances. That power strip gets turned on when I enter my sewing studio and turned off when I leave. So far this one has not been driving me nuts. It heats up quickly after being off for a while and the steam level is out of this world. I can practically give myself a facial every time I iron.

I thought perimenopausal women didn't like heat and steam?...

I love the steamy love affair....

There is nothing better than having an Iron that does not give you any problems.

My favorite is still my Hot Harriet....with the cloth cord from the Goodwill. It does not have steam. Ya just never know when you'll have a hot love afair. If it had steam I'd be concerned it would ruin my beautiful hair do's....LOL

I love my B&D Digital Advantage. I'm on my second one, due to the other one landing and melting to the carpet- thanks to the pets! But the new one is better it has a setting above cotton and tells me when to clean it. I personally like the auto off, if I get distracted doing something else I don't have to worry about the iron- is on, is it off?

I have gone through so many "good" irons and now only buy the cheaper ones. It doesn't hurt as much to have to replace them. You will have to give us reviews periodically on it.

One thing we quilters need is a good iron. I hope you continue to love yours and it lasts a long time.

I wasn't able to find the Digital Advantage, but got the Black and Decker "first impressions" about a month ago after LOTS of frustration with other irons. So far, I am very happy with mine too, other than the auto shut off. It looks very similar to the Digital Advantage you picture Anya. Good luck!!

I'm a little late in responding-- haven't checked blogs in a few days. But I'm glad you love your iron as much I love mine. At times as the steam rises in great clouds around me, I can imagine myself in a gothic novel with the fog rolling in off the moors. Of course, that's if things are going well. If they're not, infernal images are more appropriate.

I bought a very expensive Olisso the one that has little legs on it so that when you set it on ironing board face down it pops up. It last ed one year three months and then one day it just stopped. I was so frustrated and it also turned off in 8 mins and I just hated that. So I am once more looking for a good iron and one that doesn't shut off.
