Different Strokes for Different Folks

Once a month or so, I get together with several of my quilting friends to make charity quilts from fabric that has been donated to our guild. As you might expect, a lot of the fabric is dated, but still usable. Several months ago we spent a day cutting the fabric into strips, squares, and tumblers and then put them together into kits. This month I started sewing these blue and brown calicos (not my style at all) and finally finished the flimsy this past weekend. It's been very hard to work on this because I do not like the fabrics at all. I like the result (well, let's just say I tolerate the result), but would never keep this as a quilt for myself.

However, one of my fellow quilters thought this was beautiful! I guess that's what makes life interesting...we all have different taste.

Anyway, I hope to get this quilted and bound soon and then get it out of my house!

Unfortunately, I still have some blocks left....just enough to make a child's quilt. Oh well, the fabric will get out of my house eventually!

I think that is a great way to use up fabric. Charity quilts are just wonderful and this is no exception. Great job!

sometimes just doing a modern quilt with the old fabrics makes them really look good. This looks really wonderful and easy too!

the idea of charity quilts is great but I often wonder why quilt groups make them out of discarded fabric that we all think is too ugly or not pretty enough for ourselves - why then do we think people who are in need would want them either - it might make more sense to buy a stack of pretty blankets at a outlet store to donate. (just my opinion)

I think this quilt turned out very nicely. Someone will be warm this winter :-)

Your heart may not have been in love with those fabrics, but your heart was still in the right place, working on the donation quilt.
It's a great feeling, isn't it?
Well done, Anya.

Isn't interesting that when the fabric isn't your favorite how hard it is to work on the quilt? When I love the fabric I can't wait to see the finished quilt!
Great job!
PS how's the empty nest going?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. There will be someone in need who will love that quilt. That colour combination is popular at present, so I suspect that it will be quick in finding a good home.
