Now What?

Some of my regular readers might recognize these twelve blocks from a Modern Block-of-the-Month that I participated in a year or so ago (started in Aug 2011, finished in July 2012). I've had these on my design wall for quite a while now, hoping that something will inspire me to figure out a layout, but so far, nothing has come to me. Truthfully, I haven't really thought about it much because I have way too many other things keeping me occupied, and unfortunately, not all of them are quilting-related.

Anyway,  I'll figure this out someday, but in the meantime, I don't need my design wall for anything else, so they'll just stay up there.

I'm thinking perhaps some solid gray fabric to tie it all together...

it calls out for a modern setting. some squares you could add a one inch or a two inch border. then set the blocks in a pleasing arrangement but not a perfect grid. Then add a wide red(s) meandering ribbon flowing between the blocks.
You could plan it out on grid paper with cut outs of the blocks which you could easily move around. I've done it that way a few times and it works out well, just takes patience.

Belated comment--just wandering back through your posts, Anya.
I have a suggestion for possible inspiration for you. Are you familiar with the "BQ" patterns by Maple Island Quilts? They're a set of modern patterns, each using open spaces and lines to frame and focus attention on squares of a special fabric. I've seen the squares be bold, large flowers; or unique Australian or African fabrics; and in your case, the squares could be these blocks. BQ, BQ2, and BQ3 are each a bit different, but same general idea. They might give you an idea for a modern layout for your very special blocks.

I just came across these blocks via another site and absolutely love them! Is it possible that the BOM details might still be available somewhere ? The colours are fantastic
