I even figured out how to fold a half-yard of fabric (the red and white check) in a similar fashion.

Very nice! Always looking for neat ways to fold my fabric. Could just be another excuse to play with it?
Hummmm...if my stacks of fabric looked THAT pretty, would I ever unfold it and use it? Probably not!
