Quick and Easy

My friend Moddy made this quilt using one jelly roll and the method explained in this video. I quilted it for her on my HQ16 with just some free-motion curves along the seam lines.

Here's a closeup...

I may have to give this a try myself. What a great way to use up strips, not necessarily from a jelly roll!

A Quickie

My friend Moddy recently put this top together for her friend (the friend made the blocks and Moddy put the blocks together), and then she asked me to quilt it. I did a loopy/swirly/leafy meander using Rainbows thread by Superior.

My regular readers know the drill....If you want to see more of the quilts that I've quilted for Moddy, just click on the "Moddy's quilts" label on my sidebar.

Last, But Not Least

My friend Moddy has been feverishly working on making six quilts for family members as gifts at Thanksgiving. She finished the last of the six last week and I quilted it for her over the weekend so she could finish up the binding in time.

She used a Disappearing Nine-Patch pattern; I just free-motioned flowers and loops.

Back To School

This is another one of my friend Moddy's quilts that she's making for family members this year. I just quilted a small meander in the alphabet blocks and then did a larger meander throughout the rest of the quilt.

The blank block needed a little something extra, so I tried my skill at cursive writing on my HQ16....

Strike Three!

This is #3 of six quilts that my friend Moddy is making for some of her young family members this fall. I just did some free-motion meandering.

Those of you who are regular readers of my blog know that I've quilted quite a few for my friend. If you're a new visitor and want to see more, just click on the label "Moddy's quilts" (down on the right sidebar of my blog) . She sure keeps me busy (and keeps her family warm!).

Whose Blog Is This Anyway?

I should just rename my blog to "Moddy's Quilts"-- this is the one she gave me to quilt for her this week. I free-motioned some loops and stars on this cute cowboy quilt.

The pattern is a simple disappearing nine-patch. You can find a tutorial here.

She's At It Again

My friend Moddy is busy again making quilts for her loved ones. Isn't this one cute? She asked me to quilt it for her and tells me that she will have five more for me before Thanksgiving. It's a good thing they'll all be children's quilts!

To see more of the quilts she's made and that I've quilted for her, just click on the "Moddy's quilts" label down on the right sidebar of this blog.

I'm So Fortunate...

...to have a friend who lets me play with her quilts...

This is my first attempt at "dwirling" a la "The Pajama Quilter ", aka Dawn Ramirez. It's OK for my first try, but I see that next time I need to make the dips a bit deeper and a little less even. And I think the rows should be a bit closer to each other, too.

Thanks, Moddy, for being so forgiving with my attempts at trying something new!

She Keeps Going and Going...

I recently quilted another fun quilt for a friend of mine. She had leftover fabric from a fish quilt that I showed here. Here's a closeup shot...

I have another one of hers on my frame now...I think I know what I want to try on it, but I plan to buy a blacklight first so that I can see the thread. You can see all of the quilts I've quilted for my friend by clicking on the "Moddy's quilts" label on my right sidebar.

Another One

One more quilt made by my friend. It's for one of her daughters-in-law who recently moved to Montana....I think she said something about having snow this week, so
it better get in the mail quickly!

I just meandered in a pointy-swirly design using my HQ16.

Keeping Me Busy

When I wasn't working on the postcard tutorial (see previous post), I spent most of last week quilting a couple of quilts for others on my HQ16.

The first is Amber's bright quilt -- my friend Susan helped her make this and I think they both did a great job. No wavy borders for a machine quilter to deal with -- Susan taught her well! You can read about it on Susan's blog here.

The second quilt was made by my friend Moddy who can't seem to go 2 weeks without making a quilt top. This one is for her daughter -- I just meandered with mostly loops and a few leaves in places where I thought they might be visible on the very busy fabrics. You can see more of Moddy's quilts by clicking on the "Moddy's quilts" label on my blog sidebar.

My Friend Really Needs To Get A Blog

My prolific quilting friend that I have blogged about very often has made yet another fun quilt top. She and her husband just welcomed their 14th grandchild (it's a boy!) and she's been busy making sure that this baby is well taken care of.

My friend found this cute stick figure panel at Corning Stitchworks and then whipped up the top in no time. Once again, she gave it to me to "play on" with my HQ16...I just meandered a figure 8-type pattern all over. Quick and easy.

I'm only joking about her needing to get a blog...she has no interest in it...she'd rather spend her time sewing quilt tops...fine with me...That lets me show them off on my blog... If you click on the "Moddy's quilts" label on my blog's right sidebar (scroll down almost to the bottom), you can see all of the quilts that I've quilted for her.

Relaxing Work

This is how I spent some of my time this past weekend. The friend that I've blogged about many times before gave me yet another quilt to play with. All I did was an all-over meander of loops and hearts using Rainbows thread by Superior. Compared to the Irish Chain that I did a few weeks ago, this was a piece of cake!

P.S. Thanks to all who offered encouragement on yesterday's post. Nick called in the afternoon and still seems to be enjoying himself...

As Promised

Here are some more detailed photos of the quilt I've blogged about several times in the last couple of weeks.

Everything was done freehand except for using a ruler for stitching in the ditch along the rows and borders and the beadboard quilting along the outermost border. The center white sections contain a spirally flower design surrounded by stippling.

All of the scrappy squares (a million at last count)are quilted with continuous curves (I think that's what it's called), which results in an orange peel design (more visible on the back).

When I spread this on the floor in the good light of my friend's house, I was quite pleased with how it looked. I just made sure no one looked too closely....

A few of us have convinced my friend that the ideal binding for this quilt would be a prairie point border made out of the fabrics used for the squares. At first she was reluctant, but we talked her into hosting a "Painless Prairie Point Pizza Party (Purple and Pink Pajamas optional)" for our monthly sewing session next week. Everyone who comes will help out with making the prairie points that will be needed, so we should have them done in no time at all...it will also serve as a learning session for those who have never made prairie points.

The backing is a very pretty yellow which doesn't show up too well in the photo unfortunately.

Although she doesn't read my blog, I want to thank my friend Moddy for allowing me to play with her quilt without any pressure. Although the process was often stressful, it was an extremely educational and ultimately liberating experience.

Do You Think She'll Like It?

It's finished except for hiding the threads...that may take longer than the quilting!

Things are busy around here right now, so I'll post more photos and details hopefully in a couple of days...

I'm off on a mini-retreat of my guild's Dear Jane group...
