Miles and Miles of Binding

I haven't blogged for a while, but that doesn't mean I haven't been busy on the quilting front. I finished three quilt tops and pieced backings for them, and now the bindings are ready as well. I like to prepare the bindings before I quilt my quilts, so as soon as the quilting is done, I can sew the binding on quickly and get the whole project finished.

Of course, I made bias striped binding...my favorite look.

First Finish of 2016

I'm trying to shop my stash as much as possible to use up fabrics that I've had for ages. Sometimes this means using up ugly fabrics.

Here's what some of these fabrics look like up close...

They don't really play well together, but when I added a neutral tan solid, it made it a bit easier on the eyes.

How did I get these fabrics in my stash? Easy answer...I went on a few quilt retreats back when I was a newbie quilter in my guild, and we would often have ugly fat quarter contests. The owners of the ugly FQs never wanted to take theirs back home and willingly gave them away to anyone who wanted them, so of course, I took any fabric I could get my hands on because I didn't have a stash yet. It was now time to get them used up.

The pattern is Cloud Nine by Villa Rosa Designs. It comes together very quickly and easily.

Here's a closeup of the quilting...just loopy meandering...
