9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0...

This is "LS-12, Button Hook", an intermediate-level triangle that I mostly paper-pieced and then added the two diamond shapes using the raw-edge machine-buttonhole stitch method of applique. The one piece of background fabric that looks different from the others bothers me a bit (it is the same fabric, just has a bit more color to it), but not enough for me to re-do the triangle...

A Second Helping of Jane This Week

This is "LS2, Barb's Diamond", an intermediate-level triangle which I paper pieced and then added the small diamond using the raw-edge machine-buttonhole stitch applique method.

If I can keep up this pace, my goal is to have the entire top finished by the January 3rd meeting of my Laurel Janes support group. After that, the headache of piecing will be replaced with the headache of adding a scalloped border, machine quilting the entire thing, and then binding a scalloped edge...My heads hurts just thinking about it already!

Back To Jane

I made this a couple of weeks ago, but never got around to posting it.

This is "RS12, Linda's Church in the Valley", an intermediate-level triangle that I paper-pieced.

Only 24 more to go....

Keeping the Momentum Up

I'm anxious to get more of the triangles finished, so here is "RS-2, Cherokee Lee",  an advanced-level triangle, although I found it to be fairly easy to paper piece.

I've Missed You, Jane

It's been way too long since I've worked on my Jane Stickle quilt, so I finally made myself finish the last triangle of the bottom row. I had been avoiding it for way too long, mostly because I was frustrated that the software (and the book) changed the pattern too much from the original for my taste. I was going nuts trying to figure out how to make mine look more like Jane's.

Jane's is in the photo on the right. As you can see, one of the dark diamonds extends into the lighter piece above it. And the two largest triangles are in dark fabric. The software and the book disregard both of those details. 

My triangle became a hybrid of both. It was giving me too much of a headache to figure out how to get the diamond to extend into the lighter fabric, so I just went with making it end at the seam line. However, I decided that it was simple enough to make the large triangles out of dark fabric like in the original and then to add just a bit of the light fabric on the outer edges (close to what Jane did).

This is "BR-12, Jessie's Stained Glass", an intermediate-level triangle that I mostly paper-pieced.

Oops...While writing this post and looking at the photos again, I just realized that I made the two dark triangles a bit too large and that the points of the diamonds don't meet them where they should. Oh well, too late. I'm not doing them over.

Because after all, this is my quilt, not Jane's.

Pining for Jane

I had been making triangles in the bottom row and had hoped to finish all thirteen before moving on to another row, but the last two that I have left on the bottom will require a bit of time for me to draft them into paper-piecing patterns (the software isn't of much help with them). I also want one of them to look more like Jane's triangle than Brenda's pattern does. (Have I mentioned that I am really disappointed in the software, particularly when it comes to the triangle patterns?)

Anyway, in order to keep going with the triangles, I decided to move on to some easy ones in the other rows. This is the second one in the top row that I've now made.

This is "TR2, Australian Pines", a beginner-level triangle that I paper pieced. Easy peasy -- took me less than an hour.

Jane's Oak -- Take Two

I've been told that those of you who wanted to see a larger version of this photo in my previous post couldn't do it. I have no clue why my photo editing software saved it in such a small size, so I did a do-over...Thankfully, not a do-over triangle, just a do-over photo. This time you should be able to click on it and see a larger version. Let me know if it doesn't work and I'll try a third time...

Triangle of the Week

This is "BR2, Leigh's Woods", an intermediate-level block that I chose to paper piece. These triangles are definitely trickier to piece than the blocks, but they're doable (at least so far). Some of the members of my DJ support group recommeded that I use the DJ triangle ruler for these and they are definitely right! I borrowed one from my friend Dori to try it out and I have definitely put it on my "need to purchase soon" list. (thanks, Dori!)

I still need some practice (I see that there is at least one point that will be chopped off a bit when I sew it to the adjoining piece), but now I know what to watch out for as I cut.

This triangle is shown upside-down because it is on the bottom row.
