Countdown Continues

8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0...

My Christmas present to me was time -- time to work on another triangle. This one is "LS5, Olympic Torch", an advanced-level triangle which I mostly paper pieced except for that little half-circle. It's sewn on using the raw-edge machine-buttonhole stitch method of applique.

DJ Continued

This is "LS-9, Kiwi", a beginner-level block. I just used the raw-edge machine-buttonhole stitch method to applique the pieces.

Ten triangles to go...

Back To Work

This is "RS5, Geisha Girl", an intermediate-level block that I paper pieced and then appliqued the melon shape using the raw-edge machine-buttonhole stitch method. One more triangle remains to be done on the right side of the quilt and then all 13 on the left. Plus the four corner kites.

What bugs me the most about making most of these triangles (and most of the DJ blocks, for that matter), is that I could make a quilt top like this in the time it takes to make some of these triangles!

Let's Get A Move On

I really need to get working on my Jane Stickle quilt more regularly. I'm anxious to get it done because I have SOOOOOOO many other projects that I want to work on. Only 19 triangles and 4 corner kites to go...

Maybe I'll try to get two done per week...Let's see if I can actually do that.

Anyway, this is "RS9, Danish Delight", an intermediate-level triangle that I chose to paper piece.

Two In A Row

Wow, two triangles in one week...I must either be very anxious to get this finished or else I have nothing else to do in my life now that my child has left my nest...

This is "TR-9, Needles' Point", a beginner-level triangle for which I used my handy-dandy raw-edge machine buttonhole-stitch applique method. The yellow fabrics are much brighter in person...

Easy Does It

The top row of triangles is moving along since there are only a few that are tough. Those will be left for later.

This is "TR5, Michigan Dunes", an intermediate-level paper-pieced block. Remember, if you're using the software to print the patterns, be sure to change the size to the proper 5"x8" for the triangles instead of the default setting of 4.5"x4.5" (another bug in the software that is really annoying!).

Gradual Progress

OK, I have now successfully made two triangles using the raw-edge machine buttonhole-stitch applique method and I'm fairly pleased with the results. It's not perfect, but it works for me. On this triangle, I decided to sew on the two side background triangles just to get an idea for how this will look. Perhaps now I'll make more than one triangle per week...but no guarantees...

Are We Having Fun Yet?

Not really.

As you can tell, I'm still having issues with diamonds. No two of my diamonds in this triangle are alike -- but that's true in nature, isn't it?

This is "BR5, Gay's Glory", an advanced-level triangle that I paper-pieced. I was going to leave the advanced-level ones until the end, but forgot to check the difficulty level of this one before I printed out the pattern. Oh well, it's on the bottom of the quilt, so probably won't be noticed much. Anyway, it will match all of my other wonky diamonds throughout the rest of the quilt.

I think I may try a different approach to making diamonds and other angled pieces in the upcoming triangles...hopefully, it will be more fun.
