And The Winner Is....

Well, not exactly...it's not a blue ribbon, but a rosette nonetheless. I had some stiff competition in my category and all three of the quilts that beat me were hand-quilted (exquisitely, I may add). So I'm in good company.

Worth a Trip (Around the World?)

My finished Jane Stickle quilt is on display along with many other gorgeous pieces in the Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild exhibit at the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center in Wellsboro, PA through September 30th. The exhibit is free and open daily 2:00-5:00PM. Although we do not have vendors at the exhibit, there is a fabric shop on Main Street (Needles Quilt Shop) just a couple of blocks from the gallery. Wellsboro is a lovely town and the exhibit is beyond lovely -- definitely worth a trip!

Three Weeks and Counting!

My guild's exhibit opens three weeks from today with a gala evening reception! Wellsboro is located in Tioga County, PA and is an easy drive from most of the NY Finger Lakes -- one hour from Hammondsport, Watkins Glen, or Elmira; 90 minutes from Ithaca; 2 hours from Geneva or Binghamton. We're one hour north of Williamsport, PA and about three hours from Harrisburg. 

The exhibit will be on display for three weeks, September 8-30, 2-5 PM daily -- admission is FREE! There are no vendors at the exhibit; however, Needles Quilt Shop is located on Main Street just a couple of blocks from the gallery. I Almost Forgot

I just realized that I never posted a photo of my finished project for my guild's September exhibit "Out of the Box" challenge -- some of you may have seen a few photos of the process several months ago. Click here, here, here, and here if you want to refresh your memory.

The name of the piece is "A Quilter's DNA". I love the name, but I'm not all that fond of the final result. It's kind of ugly, if you ask me. The piece should really be three-dimensional to get the complete effect of a double helix, but when this hangs from the ceiling, it twists a bit and moves around, so if you stretch your imagination, it sort of works.

It now hangs in my sewing studio, never to be seen in public again! You can click on the photos to get a closer look (but why would you want to?).

Greatest Show on Earth

Feast for the Eyes

Signed, Sealed, and Delivered

My entries for the guild exhibit have been delivered and hopefully all will be hung for the show. Our exhibit is held in a small art gallery and space is limited, so we only guarantee that one piece per entrant will be displayed in all its glory. Once all the first-choice pieces are hung, then all other entries are given a chance to be displayed as well. Sometimes that means being folded up and hung on a small quilt rack or draped over a rocking chair, etc. But we almost always find room...only a handful of pieces have ever been returned for lack of space in the gallery.

Final Days

It's hard to believe, but there are only a few more days to see the Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild Exhibit in Wellsboro, PA. The exhibit is displayed at the Gmeiner Art and Cultural Center on Main Street and will be open through Sunday, September 28th from 2 until 5 PM daily. There is no admission fee and there are just under 100 exquisite quilted items to see. In addition, there are a couple of wonderful raffle prizes as well, including a queen-size quilt and some quilter's gift baskets. Click on the highlighted link above to learn more.

As you can see, we have some extremely talented quilters here in what seems to be the middle of nowhere...you don't have to live in a big city to have appreciation for and involvement in art and culture. And it's a whole lot less crowded and stressful...

Doesn't This Make You Want To Come Visit?

As promised, here are a few more shots of the guild's great exhibit in Wellsboro, PA. Although the photos are pretty good eye candy, seeing the gallery in person is much, much better. If you have a chance, I encourage everyone to come see the exhibit -- it runs through September 28th and is free! Wellsboro in Tioga County is a wonderful small town to spend some time -- a very quiet, friendly, pretty place and we even have a quilt shop with the friendliest owners.


I apologize if you've tried to click on photos in previous posts and can't get the larger version to come up on your screen. I think I figured out the reason why Blogger does this, so hopefully it won't happen again. I'm crossing my fingers that it works fine from now on.

How do we go from something like this....

....to something like this.....?

The answer is "Magic"...along with a lot of hard work from a lot of wonderful people! As chairperson of this year's Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild Exhibit, I thank every single guild member who has worked over the last 2 years to make this happen!
