Adding To My Stash

Of course, since my friends and I stopped at a couple of fabric shops during last weekend's trip to a quilt show, I had to buy a few fabrics to add to my stash.  I found this lovely piece (and it feels really, really nice) at the Shores Quilt Stop mentioned in my previous post.

And I like to keep Christmas-y fabrics on hand to wrap gifts...

But, since I have added 7 1/2 yards to my stash in September, that means I need to use up at least that much from my already-existing stash....So I got to work and laid out plans to use up about 16 yards of it....

Great Find

After the quilt show in Athens, PA last weekend, my friends and I stopped by a new fabric shop in the area, Shores Quilt Stop, (yes, that's "stop", not "shop") located along Route 6 in Wysox, PA.

There was a wide variety of fabric styles, and plenty of bright, happy fabrics by many of today's designers including Michael Miller, Henry Glass, Heather Bailey, Riley Blake. You can be sure that my friends and I will visit again soon!

Pictures From Another Exhibition

This past weekend, I went with a couple of friends to a quilt show put on by the Endless Mountains Quilt Guild. The exhibit was held in Athens, PA and was originally scheduled for last September. But Athens and the surrounding area suffered horribly with flooding from Tropical Storm Lee in early September 2011 and the show had to be cancelled. The area is making a comeback and this year, the guild put on a grand show. Here are some photos...(click on them for a larger view)...

The one below is a small version of my guild's 2012 raffle quilt...

There was also a display of several Hoffman Challenge pieces...

This Hoffman Challenge piece (below) was absolutely stunning, covered  with amazing embellishments...

Here's a closeup of some of the beading detail...

The show was held in the local elementary school...which had hexies on the floor!

Congratulations to the EMQG for putting on a fabulous show!

Neck Garland?

In just a few short hours, I made this Christmas-y scarf out of glittery yarn...

Less than half a skein of each color...

This is what it looked like (front and back) after I was finished sewing, but before being dunked in water....

These are fun to make, especially for those of us who love yarn, but don't knit (knitting-impaired, as a previous visitor to my blog said). You can see a photo of my first one that I made here.

Sail Away

Things have been really hectic around here for the last several weeks, so I haven't had much time for blogging or reading blogs. Maybe this week I'll catch up and get back to a normal routine.

Everything was a whirlwind in preparation for my guild's exhibit (still going on, by the way) and then my husband and I took a trip down to the Chincoteague/Assateauge, VA area for several days (couldn't have asked for better weather!). And this weekend we drove up to Hammondsport, NY to see their annual seaplane parade on Keuka Lake and the flight of a replica 1912 Curtiss Model E flying boat. And then the next day we made a trip to Ithaca to take college boy out to lunch.

While in Hammondsport, I stopped at an antique store and found this lovely sailboat quilt -- it didn't come home with me, however...the price tag was $350!. Why can't I ever find antique quilts for $10 or featherweights for $20?

And if you're a seaplane enthusiast or just plain curious...here's a collage of photos from the seaplane parade...

Maybe I'll get back to some quilting now....

Worth a Trip (Around the World?)

My finished Jane Stickle quilt is on display along with many other gorgeous pieces in the Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild exhibit at the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center in Wellsboro, PA through September 30th. The exhibit is free and open daily 2:00-5:00PM. Although we do not have vendors at the exhibit, there is a fabric shop on Main Street (Needles Quilt Shop) just a couple of blocks from the gallery. Wellsboro is a lovely town and the exhibit is beyond lovely -- definitely worth a trip!
