It's Been Too Long

Today is the monthly gathering of the Laurel Janes (has a month gone by already?), so I had to make at least one block since we last met. This is "M-7, Junko's Rose Garden", an intermediate-level block for which I used the raw-edge machine buttonhole-stitch method. The dark purple fabric (and it's really much prettier in person) was cut out as just one piece and then sewn on the background fabric (also much prettier in person) with my machine. Only about an hour's worth of work.

If you'd like to see how I do this, you can check this post here.

I realize that this is not "real applique", but I don't really care. This is my quilt and this method works for me, so if the applique police come around they can go bother somebody else. All I know is that I am enjoying making this quilt using the methods that work best for me and I know that in the end I will have a quilt that I will love, even with its "imperfections".

I think it is applique for sure. And you are right it is your quilt. I love the block.

It is real applique! I machine-quilt, does that mean mine are not real quilts! hehehe. I believe all the quilters before us would have used all the tools we have if they had them!

it's applique - it is how you have been doing a lot of them so it will match up with what you have.
We all do them different ways - our own way.

You have done a beautiful job on it anyway! I really want to start a Dear Jane next year.

Applique is applique -- different people, different methods -- this method is working for you and your blocks are getting done beautifully. Your DJ blocks have encouraged me to do more of my applique by machine, and I'm so happy with my results.

This block scared me. Not anymore! Thanks for the one-piece idea.

Love the block almost as much as I love the attitude. :)

You GO GIRL...your blocks are gorgeous and I am envious...I will take your style of applique any day! I think if there are quilting/applique police out there, they are just envious of the quilting/applique going on in *our world*!! Have a great week!

I love your attitude! I always want to know the "right" way to do something when I'm first learning, but then I take that info and use it to create my own way of doing things. Like applique. I'm with you in the way you do it. Why would I do it the "correct according to the quilt police" way and totally not have fun beause I hate doing it that way? That's stupid. I want to enjoy my hobby, not get frustrated by it.
