While hand sewing a binding on this very cold Sunday afternoon, I watched "The Egg and I" on TCM. I almost spit out my tea during the scene where Ma Kettle wins first prize for her quilt in the county fair and the prize money is enough to send her oldest son to college! Oh, if only that was true in the real world...then Cornell's tuition wouldn't look so scary...

We can dream, can't we??
LOL - wow I wonder how much that prize was? :) at our county fair I won best of show one year and it barely paid for one yard of fabric (tiny county fair and low prize money)

I watched the same movie this afternoon and thought the exact same thing!
No kidding!!!!
A couple of years ago I had entered several quilts in various catagories. 3 blues and a grand Champion, my prize money was like $15. Sure wish that would cover my sons tuition.
I watched it as well, and almost lost it when Claudette Colbert told Marjorie Main that her son wouldn't have to pay any tuition. If only!
Haven't seen that movie in years. Sorry I missed it.
That's become a favorite TV channel for me, by process of elimination. I have no tolerance for any reality show, or another crime fighting show, or another cutesy chatting-between-the commentators news or talk show. I must be getting old.
Hurrah for the classics and hurrah for TCM.
Ah, they don't make movies like that any more.
