Strike Three!

This is #3 of six quilts that my friend Moddy is making for some of her young family members this fall. I just did some free-motion meandering.

Those of you who are regular readers of my blog know that I've quilted quite a few for my friend. If you're a new visitor and want to see more, just click on the label "Moddy's quilts" (down on the right sidebar of my blog) . She sure keeps me busy (and keeps her family warm!).

Deja Vu All Over Again

The blocks that were left over after I made the quilt that I showed in yesterday's post are now together in a child's quilt. Once I finish quilting and binding both of them, I hope to give them to a shelter that will give them to a mother and child.

Different Strokes for Different Folks

Once a month or so, I get together with several of my quilting friends to make charity quilts from fabric that has been donated to our guild. As you might expect, a lot of the fabric is dated, but still usable. Several months ago we spent a day cutting the fabric into strips, squares, and tumblers and then put them together into kits. This month I started sewing these blue and brown calicos (not my style at all) and finally finished the flimsy this past weekend. It's been very hard to work on this because I do not like the fabrics at all. I like the result (well, let's just say I tolerate the result), but would never keep this as a quilt for myself.

However, one of my fellow quilters thought this was beautiful! I guess that's what makes life interesting...we all have different taste.

Anyway, I hope to get this quilted and bound soon and then get it out of my house!

Unfortunately, I still have some blocks left....just enough to make a child's quilt. Oh well, the fabric will get out of my house eventually!

All Good Things Must End

Unfortunately, today is the last day of my guild's exhibit. If you want to see a few photos, check out the ones I posted on my group blog here.

Ready, Set, GO!

I recently used my AccuQuilt GO! cutter to cut some tumbler blocks from these. The top is finished...stay tuned for a photo of the finished top....

A Triangle To Start My Week

Another one in the top row -- this is "TR4, Bennington Cross", an intermediate-level paper-pieced block. Not perfect, but it will do.

You may notice that sometimes my triangles have pointy tops and sometimes they are cut off. That's because I don't always remember to take a photo before I sew them to the adjoining dark triangles.

This software has so many bugs, it's not funny. I lost track of the number of problems a long time ago...Sheesh...they really need to get an improved version out on the market and they should also provide a patch (free of charge) that would correct all of the bugs for those of us who spent our good money on the first version!

I've Caught the Bug

Everyone seems to be making these, so I finally got into the act. I have only seven so far, not sewn together, just arranged on my carpet for the photo shoot. As of now, there is no plan...I'll just keep making them until I get bored. Of course, I will also work on other projects at the same time.

On a totally different subject....I met fellow PA quilting blogger Karen (of Quilting With Grace blog) at my guild's exhibit yesterday. It was fun putting a face to a blog...

Whose Blog Is This Anyway?

I should just rename my blog to "Moddy's Quilts"-- this is the one she gave me to quilt for her this week. I free-motioned some loops and stars on this cute cowboy quilt.

The pattern is a simple disappearing nine-patch. You can find a tutorial here.

Blue Monday

I'm working on several projects at once, but I managed to finish another Jane Stickle triangle.

This one is "TR3, Checkerboard", a beginner-level paper-pieced triangle. Very easy. I wish they all were.

Feast for the Eyes

Here are a few shots of the quilts hanging on the walls of the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center in the Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild's Exhibit 2010.

I haven't had time to take as many photos as I'd like, so I'm hoping to do so this weekend. Then later on you'll get to see some more...there's lots to see.

She's At It Again

My friend Moddy is busy again making quilts for her loved ones. Isn't this one cute? She asked me to quilt it for her and tells me that she will have five more for me before Thanksgiving. It's a good thing they'll all be children's quilts!

To see more of the quilts she's made and that I've quilted for her, just click on the "Moddy's quilts" label down on the right sidebar of this blog.

Back To Work

With all of the goings-on with my son's high school graduation and start of college and with the work of getting ready for my guild's exhibit, I haven't had much time to devote to my Jane Stickle quilt (you know, THAT quilt). It's been four months since I last made a triangle.

I had been planning on doing one row of triangles at a time and had managed to complete 11 of 13 in the bottom row, but got stuck with the two that remained. When I finally sat down a couple of days ago to work on the quilt again, I decided to leave them for later and to spend my time now working on the triangles that won't make me tear my hair out.

As I result, here is "TR1, Spanish Moss", a beginner-level paper-pieced triangle. Perhaps this has now primed the pump and I'll have another triangle to show soon.

A Small Taste

I haven't had time to go through my photos yet, but you can get a peek at a few shots of our exhibit on my friend Madalene's blog today. I hope to have some photos up on my blog in the next week...

You're Invited!

The Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild is having a party and you're all invited!

I spent the last couple of days with a few other guild members helping with the hanging of our exhibit which opens this Friday with a gala evening reception. Wow, what teamwork. When the period for dropping off quilts ended on Sunday evening, it looked like such a difficult job lay ahead. But under the leadership of two of my quilting friends, our "artistic director" Madalene (of Working Wall blog) and this year's exhibit chair Susan (of Hanging on by a Needle and Thread blog), and with the hard work of several guild members, (thank goodness for ibuprofen!) the result is absolute heaven. I would love to show you some photos of what it looks like, but I don't want to spoil the surprise. It will have to wait until sometime after the opening reception on Friday.

If you're in the Wellsboro, PA area this Friday, please consider stopping by. There is no entry fee and everyone is welcome. If you cannot make it to the reception, please consider visiting the exhibit while it is on display from September 4th through 26th. Gallery hours are 2-5PM daily, again with no entry fee. Believe me, if you love quilts, you won't be sorry you came.
