A group of us did a D4P quilt as a gift and we put it together with the 2nd layout. I like how that layout makes the quilt look like it is undulating (effect seen better when you are further away from the quilt).
But either layout is great. . . .do what you think works best for you.
I think I like #2 as well. I did a quilt with these blocks and put them on point. I found that interesting and it was a way to make the top a bit bigger
My husband Gary and I live just outside of Wellsboro, PA. We left the rat race of Northern Virginia in 1997 and never looked back. Oh yes, did I mention that I am a quiltoholic?

Both are pretty so you can't go wrong. I do like the top one better myself.
