When I was making these blocks, I thought I'd prefer the first layout based on what I had seen online, but now I'm sort of really liking layout 2.
Decisions, decisions!

go with the one you prefer - it doesn't matter if it isn't the one you originally thought you wanted
Both are pretty so you can't go wrong. I do like the top one better myself.
A group of us did a D4P quilt as a gift and we put it together with the 2nd layout. I like how that layout makes the quilt look like it is undulating (effect seen better when you are further away from the quilt).
But either layout is great. . . .do what you think works best for you.

I agree, I like #2 also.
I think I like #2 as well. I did a quilt with these blocks and put them on point. I found that interesting and it was a way to make the top a bit bigger
