This is "C-4, Tic Tac Toe", labeled by the software as an advanced-level block, and rightly so in my opinion. Probably both for the small size of some of the pieces (notice mine are of various sizes), but also for the Y-seams in the outside triangles. I chose to paper piece the center and then rotary cut the outside triangles.
I could have made things easier on myself and paper-pieced the outside triangles, but the seams would not have been in the corners. Anyway, this gave me a chance to practice Y-seams, which I don't mind anywhere near as much as I mind hand applique (apologies to my regular blog readers who are probably tired of hearing me whine about hand applique...).

Love this block! I certainly empathize with you about hand applique. It is not my cup of tea either.
That is one beautiful block Anya. As for hearing about hand applique....you'd feel differently if you had the master sitting next to you. Do you need her phone number :) Honestly, I have done so much better with my hand applique after working with "the master." It also helps if she is sitting right next to you so when you come to that point where you thing....what the XXX....she smiles and says...here dear....let me help you with that :) Got to love being so close to all those tallented ladies. There are so very many of them right in your back yard.
Wishing I were there in PA this morning.

Love those colors! Beautiful! I sew absolutely everything by hand, so I guess I don't mind hand applique.
WOW this is a gorgeous block...you are doing a beautiful job with your DJ! I am excited for you with each block! Have a great evening!
Now I remember why I haven't done C-4. LOL.
Beautiful.
