As I blogged about in this post here, my mission this year is to make quilts for teenagers because they often get forgotten when we quilters make quilts for charity (teenagers get sick, too!).
One of the things that I'm most proud of with this quilt is that the backing (which screams teenage girl to me) comes from a sheet that I found at my local Goodwill store for $3. (hint to the quilt police -- don't even think about commenting...). The sheet was in great shape with no stains or fading, so I took gladly paid the $3, took it home, washed it in hot soapy water and voila...a perfect backing that didn't need to be pieced.
Here is a closeup of the double-loop meander quilting that I did on my HQ16. It went very quickly.

Great Quilt. Love the backing. Like you said, perfect for a teenage girl. I need to go Thrift hunting for backings!
I love Goodwill sheets! The quilting police don't visit those of us who are forward thinking and recycling!
I've finally used almost all my sheets that I keep buying at Goodwill for the same price you stated.
I bought 5 white new sheets last year and have used them all. Not even out of the packages...$20.00 not a bad find I'd say.
I love the quilt and you are quite correct...it is very teen girl!
love the colours and the wonderful backing.
That is an awesome quilt Anya - including the backing!! Someone will love it forever.
Anya, I love the way you arranged these blocks. The greens and blues are lovely as is your Goodwill sheet for the back. You will make some teenager very happy.
P.S. I also like your graduation present!
Love the backing. The quilt is very pretty. Great colors. I can't wait to see what you come up with for boys.
Beautiful quilt. I love (in no particular order) --
#1 -- white sashing to separate the pretty blocks
#2 -- that logical, girly backing
#3 -- knowing where to find the tutorial.
#4 -- the swirly, sweet quilting.
Thanks for all!
Fantastic quilt Anya !!! Very teenage. I'm ready to make a quilt for my 14yr old son, finally finished collecting the fabric, mostly brown, orange, teal and khahi green.
I use whatever I like for backings, sheets are great. I was recently gifted some Thai silk, which as of yesterday will be the back of a quilt. Very almost Eiderdown-ish with the silk backing.
Anya, what a FAB idea and I LOVE the back!
